The cooler climate Loire Valley is recognised primarily for its lean elegant whites, predominantly from the Sauvignon Blanc grape, Pouilly Fume and Sancerre are perfectly food friendly particularly with the shellfish from the Atlantic chores with which they are often shared . There are however several other individual wines which are commendable. The Chenin Blanc Grape is very successful in the shape of Vouvray, both dry and particularly sweet versions. Gamay, Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir are also offering good reds from Sancerre, Chinon, Bourgueil and Sancerre. Muscadet and Anjou are also worth searching out.
