The famous Bordeaux blend is copied with considerable success in many new world wine regions, a tribute to the Bordelais' wine-making skills crafted over the centuries. Bordeaux is naturally divided into sub-regions by the Gironde River. The Left Bank boasts the great Chateaux of the Medoc and Graves, whilst on the Right Bank, Saint Emilion, arguably the most beautiful commune, is neighboured by the tiny but no less famous commune of Pomerol. The Semillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle blends of the Sauternes and Barsac are amongst the greatest of the world's dessert wines, epitomised by Chateau Yquem. The dry white wines are becoming more sought after too, particularly from Pessac Leognan commune in the Graves region

2013 was a tough year for Cote de Beaune since hail devestated the yields in many vineyards. Volnay in particular was very badly affected. Clos des Chenes produced only two-and-a-half barrels; 304 bottles in total. The wine was, nonetheless, fantastic quality and its rarity gives romantic charm.
