Dopff au Moulin is the product of over four centuries of passionate hard work by the Dopff family around the Alsatian town of Riquewihr. The area of productive vineyard managed is 70 hectares, producing Riesling and Gewurtztraminer.
The family is famous for the invention of Cremant d'Alsace. In 1900 Julien Dopff attended an exhibition in Paris which demonstrated the Champenoise method, inspiring him to experiment with applying the technique to Alsace wine. Julien Dopff is also credited with designing the iconic narrow stemmed bottles of Alsace wines. These earned him a silver medal at the Strasbourg Exhibition after he proved that they would survive a journey to Australia and back to France.
