One of the most famous wineries in the Rhone Valley, the Guigal estate, was founded in 1946 by the passionate and ambitious Etienne Guigal. Legend says that this first vineyard near the village of Ampuis in the Cote-Rotie appellation has been producing great wines for over 2400 years. Today, the wines are still produced and left to rest in the cellars at Ampuis. Currently in the third generation, Philippe Guigal heads the winemaking enterprise with the Chateau d'Ampuis as its headquarters.
The Guigal estate owns over 440 hectares of vineyards with the majority in the Cote-Rotie and Condrieu appelations, in addition to several plots in Saint-Joseph and Hermitage.
