If one were to think of the stereotypical Burgundy wine producer, the image created would likely look something like the Cathiard domaine. A small collection of vineyards, scattered across several sites, owned and managed over generations of the same family. Fame was not invited, but the Cathiard wines quickly developed an international reputation for exceptional quality across their entire range, from entry level to Grand Cru.
Domaine Sylvain Cathiard was founded in the 1930s and has since gathered up more plots to form the current domaine which nears 5.5 hectares, primarily in Vosne-Romanee and Nuits-St-Georges. Old vines are treated by hand, without artificial fertilisers and pesticides, through harvesting, destemming and sorting.
