Founder, Tim Hamilton Russell purchased the undeveloped 170 hectare property in 1975. His son Anthony took over in 1991 and narrowed the range to just Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. One of the most southernly wine estates in Africa, Hamilton Russell Vineyards is located in the cool, maritime Hemel en Aarde Valley appellation, just behind the old fishing village of Hermanus. Anthony Hamilton Russell, along with wine maker Hannes Storm and viticulturist Johan Montgomery are commtited to expressing the personality of Hamilton Russell Vineyards Terroir in their wines.
Hamilton Russell wines express the classical style usually associated with Burgundy and are widely regarded as the best examples of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in South Africa.
