The Gimonnet family has been passionately involved with growing vines for Champagne since 1750. The third generation, in the form of Didier and Olivier Gimonnet, currently manages the 16 hectares of Premier Cru vineyards and 14 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards in the centre of the Cote des Blancs. The priority of the house is to produce Champagne which is the purest expression of the grapes, mostly Chardonnay, and the terrior.
Maison Pierre Gimonnet owns a remarkable quantity of old vines. 70% are over 30 years old, and nearly half of those are over 40, including some vines which are over 100 years old. Vinification takes place in small tanks, preserving the characteristics of each small vineyard parcel and, unusual for Champagne, all reserve wines are bottled. Dosage is restricted in order to avoid masking the subtle distinctions of the terrior.
