Piper-Heidsieck is one of the two Champagne houses, directly descended from Heidsieck & Co, founded in 1785 by Florens-Louis Heidsieck. This ambitious venture came to fruition in 1788 after a joyous encounter between the lips of Marie Antoinette, and a glass of his Champagne!
During the early 1800s, Florens-Louis Heidsieck was joined by his nephew Christian Heidsieck and master salesman Henri-Guiillaume Piper. This mighty pair would inherit the company from Florens-Louis and see their wines on royal and imperial tables worldwide, with numerous other members of high society following suit! Christian Heidsieck would pass away in 1835, leaving Henri-Guillaume Piper alone in navigating the course of the house. Piper married the widow of his late friend Christian, and shortly afterwards, Piper-Heidsieck was born.
Since their wine's appearance in the Laurel and Hardy film, Sons of the Desert, Piper-Heidsieck has maintained a close relationship with the world of film and its stars! Their most famous advocate, Marilyn Monroe, is alledged to drink a glass, first thing, every morning, and since 1993 Piper-Heidsieck has been the official Champagne of the Cannes Film Festival. Piper-Heidsieck was also the offical Champagne of the 2017 Academy Awards season, and is seen at all events!
