Chateau Pape Clement found within the Graves appellation is named for its most famous owner, Pope Clement V. After the Archdiocese of Bordeaux was dispossessed of its assets in the late 18th century, the chateau entered the public domain. After a multitude of different owners and suffering a variety of setbacks, an agricultural engineer named Paul Montagne began restoring the estate to produce high quality wines. It is now owned by Bernard Magrez.
The estate produces grows 30 hectares of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot vines for its red wines and 2.5 hectares of 45% Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Muscadelle for its white wines.
