Prestige Cuvée Champagne

The Prestige Cuvée of a Champagne house is the finest wine in their range, crafted from the best grapes, from the best plots, in the best years.

The original prestige cuvée was created by Louis Roederer in 1876, was blended from the finest wines of the vintage, and reserved for the exclusive consumption of the Russian Tsar Alexander II. To immediately differentiate this Champagne from its inferiors, it was housed in clear lead-crystal bottles and came to be known as Cristal

The brand which takes credit for generating an interest in this style of luxury Champagne is, naturally, Moet & Chandon's Dom Perignon. The success of this cuvee incited other Champagne houses to follow suit, creating cuvees such as Taittinger's Comte de Champagne, Pol Roger's Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill and Veuve Clicquot's La Grand Dame.

The year 2005 for Dom Perignon was full of contrasts. The weather was mostly warm, with little rain. A heat wave in August was followed by cool, rainy weather in September, tempering our initial enthusiasm. In the end, a drastic selection in the vineyard ensured a limited volume of exceptional...
