Information About Chateau Cos dEstournel

Louis Caspard d'Estournel inherited the estates of Cos and Pomys in 1971. He was deeply convinced that his land was exceptional and took incredible risks to enhance and innovate the estate. The risks he took eventually cost him the estate to settle debts, but he late reacquired it and would live to see it designated a Deuxieme Grand Cru du Medoc. He died in 1883, two years before Chateau Cos d'Estournel was classified as a Second Growth Estate. The current owner, Michel Reybier, shares the founder's passion for quality winemaking and has invested greatly in state of the art facilities, preserving the legacy of the estate and safeguarding the future.

The 91 hectares of Cos d'Estournel are composed of a mosaic of 61 plots. Planted two-thirds in Cabernet Sauvignon, they are complemented by Merlot, and in a small proportion by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot
