Chateau Latour is on the St Julien/Pauillac border and adjacent to Chateau Leoville Lascases. The generosity and heavenly balance of St Julien is combined with power and strength here to create what is for some, the finest vineyard in Bordeaux.

2007 is what could be regarded as a winemakers vintage as imperfect weather, such as the hot, wet summer reduced the quality of some of the grapes. The experts at Chateau Latour utilised their experience and knowledge to select what they could from the harvest and carefully blend in the press wine to return richness and intensity to the Grand Vin. These efforts created a beautiful and voluptuous wine with perfect balance; very fine.

Information About Chateau Latour

The location of Chateau Latour has history dating back to 1331 where allegedly a fortress was built. This tower inspired the estate's branding but, the edifice was destroyed in the fifteenth century. In the early eighteenth century the estate entered the hands of the Segur family, who would also own what would become Mouton Rothschild and Calon Segur. Chateau Latour would remain in the Segur family until 1964. In recent times, the Chateau is owned by François Pinault and managed by Frederic Engerer who have decided to stop selling Chateau Latour En Primeur. The 2012 vintage of Chateau Latour is expected to go on sale in 2022 when the wine will be appreciated more.

Chateau Latour has 78 hectares planted with vines of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The 2007 Latour (the first wine made in the newly renovated cellars) exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a sweet, expansive bouquet of black fruits and spring flowers interwoven with a striking minerality. The wine’s dense, medium to full-bodied flavors are surprisingly evolved, with soft tannins, an ample, generous mouthfeel, and an endearing texture. Undoubtedly one of the longest lived wines of the vintage, the 2007 Latour should last for two decades or more.

Dense and round. Thick and only slightly furry. Dry finish. Needs lots of time. Impressive finish though.

Good bright ruby-red. Rather backward nose hints at cassis, black cherry, shoe polish, graphite, minerals and spices. Sweet, broad and rich, but with enticing fresh minerality giving energy to the rather full-bodied middle palate. The wine's cassis fruit is complicated by an almost decadent floral element. Finishes perfumed and very long, with wonderfully lush, supple, fine-grained tannins.
