Close to optimum climatic conditions made 2010 a great vintage in Bordeaux. The vintage is quite forward with a fruit driven style. The very experienced Monsieur Moueix has crafted a beautifully elegant, Merlot dominated, bio-dynamic red wine. Poised and balanced with plenty of ripe black fruit and dusty tannins.

Information About Fonroque

The Philosophy at Chateau Fonroque is a soulful one and the wines reflect this in their grace and elegance. Biodynamic status was granted in 2005. The property of around 18 Hectares is planted to around 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. The wines are characterised by Limestone soils, prevalent in the finest estates of the region.

"Biodynamic viticulture represents an approach that seeks to respect living organisms.  It makes us aware of the potential of our vineyard and enables us to express this better.  In this way, biodynamic methods help a winegrower to stay in the background and put his terroir in the forefront, which is a wonderful recompense.  Biodynamic viticulture is demanding, but extremely rewarding." Still rather tightly knit, this biodynamically farmed vineyard from Alain Moueix exhibits sweet red and black currant fruit, some loamy soil undertones, licorice and a distinctive minerality, elegance and purity. It is tightly knit at present and seems to have closed down post-bottling. Nevertheless, there’s a lot to like in this wine and it certainly has the potential to merit an outstanding score after 2-4 years of bottle aging. It should drink well for 15-20 years.

Rating : 89+/100

One of the first estates to embrace Biodynamic farming in St. Emilion produced wine focused on black raspberry, stone and fennel characteristics. Soft, polished and medium bodied, this can be enjoyed now, but it should be better after a few years in the bottle.

Rating : 90/100
