Part of the Lafite portfolio, Rieussec is one of the top names when it comes to Sauternes - holding its own among the likes of Chateau D'Yquem.

The 2007 vintage was subjected to a cold and rain filled winter, followed by a welcome mild spring, which stimulated vine growth. Combine this with a reasonable summer and you get beautifully ripened grapes, and in turn a fantastic vintage! Full bodied and packed with flavour, this should not be missed.

Information About Chateau Rieussec

The Rieussec estate was originally owned by Carmelite monks, but after its confiscation during the French revolution it was sold into private ownership. During the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux, Rieussec was awarded Premier Cru status.

Since 1984 Chateau Rieussec has been a part of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). New ownership coincided with more rigorous selection measures and renovation of the winemaking facilities and cellars; the surge in quality was first visible in the 1988 vintage.

The vineyard of Rieussac is one of the largest in Sauternes, covering 93 hectares, and planted to 90% Semillon, 7% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle.

Tasting Date : 01 February 2012

Tasted single blind against its peers. The Rieussec 2007 has a subtle nose of dried honey, pear, a touch of quince and crushed stone on the nose, the oak better integrated than last year. The palate is well-balanced with stem ginger and honeycomb on the entry. It is linear compared to its peers, there is no flourish on the finish as yet, but it has fine definition and hints of tangy marmalade and lemongrass that should become more accentuated with time. Tasted January 2011.
