Belle Epoque may describe a different period to different people... To the wine makers at Perrier Jouet, it is perhaps about their opportunity to produce beautiful Champagne wines over a number of years, and to those with a philosophical nature it may represent a toast to happiness and success. To most we suspect it may just describe the time between the cork being removed from this bottle and the last glass being drained...
Founded in 1811 with the marriage of Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Adele Jouet, Maison Perrier-Jouet has consistantly created Champagne wines which they describe as floral, stylish and have diamond cut, clear flavour profiles. Owning some of the best vineyards in the Cotes des Blancs, the house favours Chardonnay in their blends with fine structure provided by Pinot Noir from Mailly, Ay and Dizy.
Perrier-Jouet, since 1902, has had a relationship with Art Nouveau, initiated by a sweeping engraving of Japanese anemones on a bottle. Every bottle of the vintage Champagne since features the same anemones, and the house has continued to celebrate Art Nouveau through commissions with renowned artists and craftspeople.
Perrier-Jouet Champagne has been seen gracing some of the most honoured tables including Napoleon III, the first President of France, Queen Victoria, and more recently being the favourite Champagne of the royal family of Monaco.
Tasted blind. Pale straw. Very steady bead. Tight, dense, tight-knit almost chalky nose. And then a little bit of nuttiness. Perrier Jouët?
