The Awatere Valley is known for its relatively harsh climate with strong winds and morning frosts in spring working to harden the vines for the high temperatures of summer followed by the cool nights in autumn. As a result the vines struggle and yield small, well matured grapes of typical Awatere finesse and flavour.

The Sauvignon Blanc from Boreham Wood is a pure, sustainable, single vineyard Awatere Valley wine.
Information About Boreham Wood

Boreham Wood is one of two labels adopted by the Clark family who hail from Boreham Wood a small village north of London. They left city life in 1998 to try a new life growing grapes in Marlborough. We like the purity of the fresh grassy Kiwi fruit and have taken the Sauvignon Blanc since the 2006 vintage.

Winery Note
Winery Note

This pure and powerful wine has lifted passionfruit, grapefruit and gooseberry aromas. On the palate, there is plenty of zest with herbaceous crushed herb and nettle flavours combining wonderfully with layers of fresh lime and stone fruits. This is a classic Upper Awatere wine with a chalky mineral character and racy acidity that helps give this wine extraordinary length and class.

Tasting Date : 04 July 2017

Pale with a platinum hue, the nose is nicely fruity, with a cool mint edge and a hint of icing sugar, as well as the tell-tale Sauvignon Blanc gooseberry freshness (though this is maybe less intense than some). The palate is quite citrusy, with plenty of lime and unripe mango. The freshness carries well into the finish. Good with green salads and goat’s cheese...
