From way back in 1948, Amrut Distilleries Limited has grown out of its locale in Karnataka to an acknowledged all-India presence. Painstaking selection of malt and grapes, rigid control over quality of alcohol, one of the finest maturation facilities in India with carefully controlled ambience, master blenders to whom liquor is more of a love affair than a job – these are the factors that have turned Amrut Distilleries Limited into a producer of quality liquors.
Amrut - a word that connotes an amalgam of divinity and immortality. Ancient Indian legend has it that 'amrut' is the elixir of life that sprang up when the Gods and Demons churned the celestial ocean of milk.
"Solid, honest whisky (with a non-scotch flourish at the finish) that would, after a black coffee, follow the finest Chicken Korma" - Jim Murray
Nose : Distinctly confidant liquorice-bourbon notes with near perfect bitter-sweet balance; burnt honeycomb and toffee also abound
Taste : Outstanding richness and sheen to the enormous barley-oak sweetness; again there is a big bourbony cut to the cloth with all the liquorice and molassed sugar normally associated; but the barley adds that extra dimension
Finish : Long, wonderfully layered oak offering variations of a sweet dry theme; a touch silky with some cream toffee at the death
