The world famous El Dorado Rums are produced from the Diamond distillery on the East Bank of the county of Demerara, Guyana. The story of Demerara Distillers Limited begins in 1670 with the amalgamation of local sugar cane producers under the guidance of early European explorers.
Having the only distillery in the region to survive to the present day, DDL is also committed to preserving age-old production techniques and operates the only remaining wooden Coffey still in the world as well as the only wooden pot stills – all of which contribute to the distinctive & unique flavour profiles of the rums in the El Dorado stable.
All El Dorado Rums are produced strictly from local sugar cane, and aged in small American oak casks before blending to perfection by the master distiller. The rums are left to marry for at least 3 months ensuring a rich development of flavours & impressive complexity.
Golden amber in colour with a light citrus nose that slowly becomes fuller and rounder. Hints of poached pear, gingerbread, quince and dried fruits develop. The palate is a complex mix of light spices, nuts, ripe fruit, smoke and wood with notes of candied orange, all spice and macadamia nuts in the forefront. A smooth and mellow finish fades away cleanly with a citrus, nutty finish. Great depth and can be sipped or mixed into luxurious cocktails.
The brand new El Dorado 8 year old golden rum is unique in its category & testament to the skill of the Master Blender. Only Demerara sugarcane molasses is used as the raw ingredient. This comes from the banks of the Demerara river in Guyana. All of the water used in production comes from an Artesian Well located on the distillery’s grounds. Natural fermentation is used to help the rum develop a full flavour. The temperature of the fermenting liquid is kept cool to prevent bitter flavour components forming. Distillation takes place in the World’s only Wooden Pot and Column Stills. These give El Dorado 8 year old a completely unique flavour profile & add complexity to the rum. Aging takes place in small American Oak barrels. The age statement on the bottle indicates the age of the youngest rum in the blend, so this guarantees that none of this rum has less than 8 years of aging. After blending to perfection, the master blender marries the rum for around 3 months in large casks, ensuring a rich development of flavours before bottling. El Dorado 8 Year Old was launched to the UK market in October 2009 and has received rave reviews throughout the industry.
